25 – 26 September – Mike Leigh's play Abigail's Party at Railway Hotel
25 and 26 September at 8pm
The Thalian Theatre Group have ventured from their normal performance home at The Towngate Theatre in Basildon, to perform the 1970’s classic Abigail’s Party by Mike Leigh at the Railway Hotel. This is the first theatre play performed at the Railway Hotel who have already hosted a number of art events, music gigs and film screenings.
Rather than conventional theatre seating, the audience will sit round tables in a club atmosphere and will be able to enjoy a drink at the same time! Rather a fitting setting for this 1970’s comedy romp full of wit and clever character observation which was a huge hit both on stage and on television and helped to launch the career of Alyson Steadman. The cast will be in authentic 1970′s clothing and hairstyles, delivering the play as a wonderful slice of retro suburban life.
“If you remember Jose Feliciano, fibre light table lamps, house prices around the £20,000 mark and cheese & pineapple on cocktail sticks then you’re about the same age as the director and he’ll be happy to reminisce after the show!!”, promise the organisers.
