SOUTHEND POLISH ART FESTIVAL – 12-13 SEPTEMBER
FIRST EVER SOUTHEND POLISH ART FESTIVAL
This weekend – 12-13 September 2009
The Festival has been developed and produced by Hungry Arts together with 30 Bird Productions, Metal, Focal Point Gallery and the local Polish community, to celebrate the very best of Polish culture and art, and the special relationship between Southend-on-Sea and Sopot, Southend’s Polish twin, on the Baltic Sea.
A three-day feast of music, art, dance, film, workshops, football, food and crafts, the Polish Arts Festival has something to tickle everyone’s fancy. Highlights include 30 Bird Productions unique mobile Polish ‘Tea House’ and multiple performances of ‘Chodzenie Siberia’ (one of a series of events under the ‘Chodzenie’ umbrella inspired by the journey of Polish captives from Siberia to Iran during the Second World War), the ‘Polski Picnic’ in Priory Park replete with traditional Polish dancers, live bands, crafts, Polish sausages, beers etc., and New York artist Erik Blinderman’s Solidarity-inspired exhibition ‘Sounds of the Sea and Shops’ in Focal Point Gallery.
