Music for Fun Days for Children and Young People
Southend High School for Girls, Southchurch Boulevard, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS2 4UZ.
Southend Borough Council offers young people aged 7 upwards a day and a half of music for fun during the half term holidays. Players of all instruments can take part – keyboards, percussion, guitar, strings, woodwind, recorders, brass instrments. Children should bring their instrments and a music stand if possible. There are a limited number of keyboards and percussion instruments provided. There will be 3 groups: Beginners (up to Grade 1), Intermediate (Grades 2 – 4) and Advanced (Grades 5+). 2pm – Waterstone’s Children’s Book Festival Week
Waterstone’s, High Street, Southend
The author and the illustrator of Festival of the Garoyoles, the new children’s title set in Southend in the 1770s, are excited to be taking part in the Children’s Book Festival Author Robert Hallmann will be coming dressed as a smuggler with some authentic objects for the children to examine as well as some amazing images of gargoyles and the locations which inspired him to write this magical tale of friendship and adventure. David Hurrell who illustrated the book, revealing how Southend looked 200 years ago, will be teaching the audience how to draw gargoyles.
