Firstsite, the arts organisation based in Colchester, whose mission is to develop relationships between art, artists and people through the delivery of high quality contemporary visual art, is seeking to appoint a new Director. The appointment takes place following the announcement by Arts Council England (ACE) confirming funding for Firstsite for two years from November 2015 and has been secured after a period of consultation and change. This establishes the platform on which the new Director will lead and develop Firstsite to become a thriving cultural organisation, producing world class contemporary art for audiences locally and internationally significant.

Reporting to the Chair, Dr Noorzaman Rashid, and working with the Board which has been formed under his leadership, the new Director will take responsibility for the Business Plan which forms the basis of the funding arrangement with ACE. Leading the Artistic Programming, and providing leadership, motivation and support to staff, the appointed candidate will work to attract diverse and increasing audiences while also playing a pivotal role in the development of Colchester’s cultural quarter, Gold Square.

In the new Director, the Board seeks a dynamic artistic leader with a reputation for curatorial excellence combined with good management skills, able to provide the inspirational leadership the organisation requires. With excellent communication, collaboration and relationship- building skills, the new Director will have the ability to develop, articulate and implement a vision which will consolidate the support of stakeholders, attract new audiences, and partnerships and give to Colchester the internationally respected vibrant contemporary arts venue it deserves.

Closing date for applications: Friday 11th December 2015 (close of business).
