‘Is our education system a good ambassador for the creative sector?’
Creative Learning in Southend Alternative Pathways Discussion
Official statistics published in 2014 revealed that the UK’s creative Industries are worth £71.4 billion per year to the UK economy. It continues to be one of the fastest growing sectors, rising by 15% in the year 2015/16.
This event will pose the question ‘Is our education system a good ambassador for this growing sector?’. The value of creativity as part of a full learning experience can be overlooked by a narrow definition of innovation. Failing to capitalise on this fact brings a risk to the future of the wider creative industries and the potential for young people and their employment opportunities.
Join guest speakers Colette Bailey (Artistic Director of Metal), Roxie Curry (Royal Opera House Bridge), Nicky Morgan (Arts Council England), Kieran Reed (Artist and Lecturer at Slade School of Art) and Viv Stevens (Headteacher at Hinguar School, Shoeburyness) to discuss the opportunities facing creative learning in Southend and how we can support our young people in their choices.
