Film Screening: Notes on Blindness
Southend Fringe Film Festival is delighted to present one of the most critically-acclaimed British films of the year Notes on Blindness. Based on academic John Hull’s diary about learning to accept blindness during the early 1980s, Notes on Blindness uses original audio recordings to attempt to visualise the sensation of losing sight. Hull, who kept a log of his emotional journey as his sight failed, eventually accepted his condition, describing himself as a “whole-body seer”. The film was nominated for 6 British Independent Film Awards winning the Best Documentary Award and was nominated for 3 BAFTAs including Best Documentary and Outstanding British Film.
Peter Middleton and James Spinney, Writers and Directors, developed the film whilst on Residency at local arts organisation Metal and will be hosting a Q&A after the film screening.
