Knight of the Burning Pestle
By Francis Beaumont.
Performed by East 15 BA Acting & Stage Combat.
In Francis Beaumont’s Jacobean satire, a production of a classical text is given a breath of fresh air when the audience blur the lines between traditional theatre and an interactive experience. This ground-breaking play-within-a-play sets the stage for a type of immersive theatre, long before the concept had been formulated and popularised.
The audience have paid for their tickets and they know what they want; why shouldn’t they express their opinions? Why shouldn’t they be allowed to take part? Why should they simply watch a play when they can experience a play?
As we open the 2017 Autumn season, our audience will encounter a new layout of the performance space. Inspired by the thrust stages of the Elizabethan era, our productions will play out on a raised stage with audience on three sides.
